Paddle UK, Thank You - A Second Year of Support

In 2022, when we were just starting out and still quite small, British Canoeing approached us with an intriguing proposition. They sought to collaborate with a reputable organisation, one they could recommend to paddlers, aiming to enhance safety within the non-club paddling community. Our Free Paddle Events, focused on safety and enjoyment, complete with marshals and first aiders, caught their attention.

Establishing new AquaPaddle Locations demanded both time and funds for safety gear. Our growth was limited by the pace of donations, particularly during a cost-of-living crisis. Hence, an agreement was forged: AquaPaddle would provide expertise and labour, while British Canoeing would supply £30,000 for safety equipment and Crew Kit. Delighted doesn’t quite cover it – this injection of funds empowered us to engage earnestly with volunteers keen to set up new locations. From five sites, we rapidly expanded to over twenty across England, Wales, and Scotland. Our membership soared from a mere few hundred to well over three thousand, many of whom also joined British Canoeing, seeing the advantages firsthand. Of those members, some 1,900 registered for the 127 events that were run, despite the challenging weather.

Fast forward to 2024, and the partnership with Paddle UK thrives. Recognising the mutual benefits, Paddle UK has graciously extended the agreement for another year. At AquaPaddle, we deeply appreciate the invaluable support and guidance from Paddle UK. Their continued funding not only equips clubs and non-profits with necessary gear for AquaPaddle Events, but also fosters the mental and physical well-being that regular paddling provides.

The support by Paddle UK ensures growth and the safety of paddlers of all abilities for years to come. Providing a secure environment for our events instils confidence in participants, encouraging their active involvement even during the challenging winter months. Many have said that without AquaPaddle, they wouldn’t have ventured out to paddle in winter. Thus, AquaPaddle, with the backing of Paddle UK, promotes both physical and mental health throughout the darker, wetter seasons.
