About

Canoeing, kayaking, or paddleboarding along the Grand Union Canal through the village of Catherine-de-Barnes offers a serene and picturesque experience, blending natural beauty with rich local history. The canal, which is part of a major waterway connecting London to Birmingham, meanders through this quaint village known for its charming 19th-century cottages and historic pub, The Boat Inn, which has served travellers for generations. As you paddle along the tranquil waters towards Knowle, you may encounter a variety of wildlife, including kingfishers, herons, and moorhens, as well as the occasional swan. The lush greenery and overhanging willows provide a peaceful canopy, making it an ideal spot for nature and paddlesport enthusiasts.

On site facilities

Parking

DO NOT try to drive down to the canoe club along the towpath driveway. Turning a car round is very difficult and dangerous if there are paddlers gathering. Either park in The Boat car park or roadside on Bickenhill Lane (///deflection.epic.blunt) or Barbers Lane (///rests.piper.theme). We aim to arrange a drop off point in Oak Tree Farm (///truth.duty.rocket) so you can carry your boat/board/kit through to the get-in (///nail.bolts.boots) before parking. If you park in the pub car park please ensure that you go in for a post paddle drink or snack!
Blue Badge holders – we will keep an area coned off for your use by the get-in. Please take extra care when travelling down the towpath driveway.

Refreshments

No refreshments on site but The Boat pub serves food all day, plus there is a small minimarket opposite which also sells hot drinks.

Facilities

Accessible toilet
Accessible paddle equipment (outrigger kayaks/stable double kayaks/assorted paddle attachments and supports) can be loaned by prior arrangement
