Plas Menai

Paddle the Mighty Straits

An amazing place to paddle to see the raw power of nature

About

Paddling from Plas Menai on the Menai Strait is an unforgettable experience, offering a unique mix of adventure and tranquillity. Whether in a canoe, kayak, or on a paddleboard, the strait’s powerful tidal currents create an exhilarating challenge, with waters that shift and flow between Anglesey and the North Wales mainland. As you navigate this historic waterway, you’ll be surrounded by stunning coastal scenery and an abundance of marine life—from seals lounging on the rocks and cormorants diving for fish to porpoises gracefully riding the currents. With the iconic Menai Suspension Bridge, built by Thomas Telford in 1826, and the Britannia Bridge, a marvel of Victorian engineering, towering above, every paddle stroke connects you to the rich maritime history of this remarkable place.

We are delighted to bring AquaPaddle to this world-class location, adding Plas Menai to our growing network of free, timed 5K paddles. As the National Outdoor Centre for Wales, Plas Menai has long been a hub for watersports, making it the perfect home for an AquaPaddle event. At high tide, the strait transforms from a dynamic, fast-moving channel into a calm and glassy expanse, offering paddlers a completely different experience—one of peace and reflection. Drifting along the serene waters with Snowdonia’s majestic peaks on one side and Anglesey’s rolling landscapes on the other is truly breathtaking. Whether you’re looking for an exciting challenge or a peaceful escape, AquaPaddle Plas Menai offers an incredible way to explore this historic and beautiful stretch of water.
