About
Paddling on Llandegfedd Reservoir is a breathtaking experience, offering stunning scenery, abundant wildlife, and a peaceful escape into nature. Whether in a canoe, kayak, or on a paddleboard, the reservoir’s vast, open waters provide the perfect setting for paddlers of all abilities. Surrounded by rolling hills, woodlands, and wildflower meadows, it is a haven for wildlife, with great crested grebes, kingfishers, herons, and even the occasional osprey making an appearance. The water’s pristine, glassy surface reflects the changing Welsh skies, creating a truly immersive and ever-changing paddling experience. With its safe and sheltered environment, Llandegfedd is an ideal location to relax, explore, and enjoy the fresh, invigorating air of the Welsh countryside.
We are delighted to bring AquaPaddle to this spectacular location, adding Llandegfedd Reservoir to our expanding network of free, timed 5K paddles. Originally built in the 1960s to supply water to South Wales, the reservoir has since become a hub for watersports and outdoor recreation while also supporting a rich and thriving ecosystem. Nestled between Pontypool and Usk, the area is steeped in history, with nearby Usk Castle and remnants of the old Llandegfedd village partially submerged when the reservoir was created. Today, it is a beautifully preserved conservation site, offering paddlers a unique blend of history, adventure, and tranquillity. Whether you’re seeking a gentle, relaxing paddle or a more challenging route across the lake, AquaPaddle Llandegfedd is the perfect way to experience the joys of paddling in one of South Wales’ most scenic and inspiring locations.
