About
The River Chelmer is to the north of Southend and runs through Chelmsford. It is the winter and bad weather alternative route for the AquaPaddle Southend team. The river is managed by Essex Waterways Limited and a day license or annual license will have to the purchased.
The Route is along a sheltered stretch of the Chelmer. The Launch meeting point is at How Mill Lock, where there is on-street parking. If you are an experienced paddler and are interested in helping, contact the AquaPaddle Captains through the Discord Comms System or email AquaPaddle
The River is wide enough for a reasonable number of AquaPadders. But you must register early for the AquaPaddle to avoid disappointment as numbers are limited.
The Chelmer will generally be used when The Thames at Southend is unavailable due to poor weather conditions. Over time we hope that the Paddlers of Chelmsford will help out and volunteer to become Crew and make AquaPaddle Chelmer an all-year-round Location.
