Paddle Through the Heart of the Highlands

Experience the tranquillity of Loch Insh while immersing yourself in the stunning natural beauty of the Scottish Highlands

About

Nestled in the heart of the Scottish Highlands, just five miles south of Aviemore, Loch Insh offers an idyllic setting for the new AquaPaddle location. This freshwater loch, situated near the village of Kincraig, is renowned for its serene waters and picturesque surroundings. The Loch Insh Outdoor Centre, located on the southeast side of the loch, provides a hub for various water-based activities, including sailing, windsurfing, and kayaking. The centre also offers accommodation options such as chalets and a small hotel, making it a convenient base for paddlers seeking to explore the area.

The region surrounding Loch Insh is a haven for diverse flora and fauna, offering nature enthusiasts ample opportunities for wildlife observation. The nearby Insh Marshes are dominated by sedge plants and host a variety of flowering species, including the least water lily and cowbane. Birdwatchers may be rewarded with sightings of ospreys, Eurasian wigeons, and goldeneyes. Notably, the area provides a habitat for majestic golden eagles, which can occasionally be seen soaring over the loch and surrounding hills. These impressive birds, with wingspans exceeding two metres, are among Scotland's most iconic raptors.
